چکیده

________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract The effect of inbreeding on the 305-d yields of milk, fat and protein, and the percentages of fat and protein in the first three lactations was estimated using records on the South African Jersey cows that participated in the National Dairy Animal Improvement Scheme. Inbreeding coefficients were estimated using the entire pedigree records of the Jersey breed and ranged from 0 to 42%. Data were analyzed using a repeatability animal model. The statistical model included the fixed effects of herd-year-season, age of the cow at calving, calving interval, inbreeding as a discrete or continuous variable and random effects of direct additive genetic, permanent environment of the cow and the residual effects. The multitrait derivative-free REML algorithm was used to obtain estimates of the variance components, ratios and empirical best linear unbiased estimates of the effects of inbreeding. Estimates of heritability were 0.26 (±0.009), 0.19 (±0.008), 0.23 (±0.008), 0.39 (±0.009), and 0.53 (±0.009) for milk, fat and protein yields and fat and protein percent, respectively. Corresponding estimates of the ratio of permanent environmental effect of the cow to total phenotypic variance were 0.20 (±0.008), 0.18 (±0.007), 0.21 (±0.007), 0.14 (±0.008) and 0.13 (±0.008). The regression coefficients for yields (kg) of milk, fat and protein were -15.42 (±1.13), -0.64 (±0.05), and -0.59 (±0.04), and 0.0011 (±0.0005) and 0.0003 (±0.0003) for percent (%) of fat and protein for each 1% increase in inbreeding, respectively. These results provide evidence of inbreeding depression for milk yield and composition traits in the South African Jersey population. ________________________________________________________________________________

Estimates of Repeatability and Heritability of Productive Trait in Holstein Dairy Cattle

Dairy cattle breeding programs have been based in the selection for traits related to milk production. In this research a data set of 63 herds of East Azerbaijan province Holstein cattle, collected during 2002-2013 by the Iranian Animal Breeding Center was used to estimate the repeatability and heritability of three traits of economic importance. Genetic parameters for first three lactations of...

Factors Affecting the Dry Period Length and Its Effect on Milk Production and Composition in Subsequent Lactation of Holstein Cows

The study aimed to determine factors affecting the dry period length and effect of dry days on milk yield, milk composition and lactation length in the next lactation of dairy cows. Data used for analysis included 7264 lactation records collected from 2012 to 2016 on 4737 Holstein cows raised in 152 herds. The statistical model used to determine the factors influencing the dry period length sho...

Effects of Fat Supplementation and Chop Length on Milk Composition and Ruminal Fermentation of Cows Fed Diets Containing Alfalfa Silage

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fat supplementation for enhancing milk conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in early lactation without affecting ruminal fermentation. 24 Holstein dairy cows were assigned to a completely randomized design employing a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement. Factors were particle size (15 and 25 mm) and two different sources of alfalfa supplemented with and wit...

Effects of Milking Frequency on Milk Production and Composition of Holstein Cows during Their First Three Lactations

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of milking frequency (two times daily vs. three times daily) on the 305-d lactation milk, fat and protein yield and fat and protein percentage of Holstein dairy cows in Morocco. Data analyzed were 31400 records collected between 2009 and 2016 on 14272 cows raised in 194 herds. The frequency of milking had significant effects (P<...
